Haunting of Sunshine Producer Talks About Creating a Successful YouTube Series

Last week the YouTube series The Haunting of Sunshine Girl was optioned by the Weinstein Company to be made into both a book and a movie.

One week before this news came out, producer and actor Mercedes Rose spoke at an event I was hosting in Portland to celebrate the one year anniversary of my cross-platform story Phrenic being in the App Store. Mercedes spoke for ten minutes about how she, her daughter Paige McKenzie, and Nick Hagen built the show from nothing into getting 65 million views, 100K subscribers, and over 200K views per day. As Mashable points out, this could change the path from YouTube to Hollywood. But it’s also significant because of the cross-platform nature of the deal.
